HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 19
(By Mr. Speaker, Mr. Kiss, and Delegate Martin)

Declaring March 2, 2000, as "Read Across West Virginia Day".

Whereas, There is no greater contribution we can make to the
education of our children than to instill in them the love of
reading; and

Whereas, Theodore Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) has been
instrumental in introducing generations of youngsters to the joys
of reading through his words and illustrations that take readers on
magical journeys through whimsical worlds with zany characters,
like a top-hatted cat and strange colored fish; and

Whereas, The birth date of Dr. Seuss, March 2, is an
appropriate day to promote the love of reading at an early age;
therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Delegates:

That March 2, 2000, is hereby declared and dedicated as Read
Across West Virginia Day.
